Welcome to Del Mar, California.

The county is San Diego.
The city has around 4,400 residents living in 1.7 square miles of land area and 0.1 square miles of water area.
The city was incorporated in July 1959.
The city is in Southern California.

Some interesting facts about Del Mar, California.
Del Mar means “of the sea” or “by the sea” in Spanish.
With over 2 miles of wonderful sandy beaches Del Mar is a real California coastal visitor destination sitting just miles north of the heart of San Diego and the European feeling town of La Jolla (the jewel) see La Jolla Live.

The city is situated between the Interstate 5 Freeway and the open Pacific Ocean north out of San Diego and the Mexican Border. The Amtrak Surfliner train runs right along the coastline through Del Mar if you have never ridden the Amtrak Surfliner train along the Southern California Coastline it is a must do way to arrive near Del Mar because the Amtrak Surfliner does not stop in Del Mar but it does stop just before the city in Solana Beach about 4 or 5 miles to the north.

Things to do in and around Del Mar, California.
Horse Racing and a County Fair even Live Concerts.
Lets get started with the cities number one event and attraction at least to this writer, the Del Mar Horse Racing Track “Where the Turf Meets the Surf” each Late July through early September since 1936 horse race fans entertainment industry moguls and captains of industry come and enjoy the finest horse racing and betting in the world and right along the Pacific Ocean a wonderful setting and a wonderful facility to enjoy life in Del Mar. The facility is not just for horse racing it is also the fairgrounds for the annual San Diego Fair as well as live concerts so if you are not going to be in Del Mar during the Horse Racing then you might catch a concert of the fair itself a major San Diego Event held beginning in mid June running through the July 4th weekend though closed June 15th and again on the 22nd known as the largest music festival in San Diego County at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, there is shopping, exhibits and great food a perfect event for the entire family.

If you are anything like Logic the fair is only part of the excitement the people locals and visitors alike are fun to watch and the historic buildings of this 1936 forward, facility are truly glamorous to study while people watching at the San Diego County Fair.

The above link to the San Diego Del Mar beaches is good but here are some high points about parks and beaches in Del Mar that we wanted to share. All parks and beaches including any public access locations are smoke free.

Torrey Pines Natural Reserve
Located just to the south of Del Mar is the Torrey Pines State Park a natural reserve along the southern California coastline that is fun to enjoy here at the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve offering the rarest of pine trees the Pinus Torreyana and hiking trails no overnight camping but picnic grounds, fishing, tours and a great way to get started is at the visitor center off Highway 1 about 1.5 miles towards the ocean from the Interstate 5 Freeway. If this California Reserve is not close enough to the Pacific Ocean for you then head on over to the Torrey Pines State Beach about 4.5 mile south of Del Mar accessible by trail from the reserve, you can of course do all that you can do at the state reserve plus swimming, so see more about the state beach Torrey Pines.
