.Mobi domain name extensions follow up

Why .Mobi domain names continue to fail
Logic has written about the demise of the .Mobi domain name extension in the past but that was nearly a year ago.
Read the Hype of Domain Name Extensions.
.Mobi a look back
when a new domain name extension used to arrive on the domain name scene we small business operators would rush to buy our company names and pick up some new names we might like to apply in our future growth plans. We at Viper Logic’s, Viper Names steered clear of the .info, .cc and the .biz domain name extensions but got caught up in the hyped .Mobi because the bigger operators like Microsoft and Google claimed these were going to be the mobile devise future.
.Mobi lacked technology
Before the advent of the .Mobi domain name extension technology had already solved the need for a mobile devise extension with the creation of (WAP) Wireless Application Protocol that when a visitor to your site came to your top level domain name ending or extension being a .com their devise would be recognized and automatically convert the content to cater to this smaller and slower download screen.
The WAP provided the same content and in fact the software that creates this WAP version is required with the .Mobi domain name extension as well.
.Mobi’s only advantage
When a person types in the .Mobi ending for any company that has developed the domain name with the .Mobi ending it tells the mobile devise user that this is a portable devise friendly site, like we say though only if the company site has developed a site for .Mobi and applied the software to runs on your devise.
Why small sites like everything Viper never applied .Mobi
Business promotion is tough enough for a single domain name yet alone having to sell your users on the .Mobi extension.
We find that if a business even requires the need for a WAP conversion software for their customers or general audience then they can buy and simply provide the service for someone that gives it a try, to access their site or sites from the customers mobile devise, then it will work.
Promotion from within
That same business operator can also promote the WAP for mobile devises promotion right on the front page of their .com web site for customers to gradually be made aware that this service free is available for those on the go with mobile devises.
Who is using .Mobi and how
We went to the most promoted .Mobi user we personally are aware of, FOX and FOXNEWS they both have the .Mobi working as a redirect to the FOX.com and the FOXNews.com sites where they are utilizing the WAP technology preventing the need to manage 2 separate sites.
So what the end user is getting or receiving is the same .com content scaled down through the WAP conversion software making the .Mobi domain name ending just another domain name.
Learn more about domain names
We have a site though lengthy in reading the details of how to buy a domain name that will have value to you and your operation is worth the read and we laid it out in 11 steps easy to read sections titled Domain Name Help and Suggestions.
The cost or additional domain name branding
Reminder the cost of a .Mobi domain name is more expensive to buy and the annual domain name renewals are even higher so the decision to utilize and promote yours or ours small business with a .Mobi extension, is what we call cost prohibitive and these days a small business can better spend its money promoting the base business and the main .com sites with far greater results.
