Donate your time and who cares?

image

We always want to write positive news
However this is not a good story about donating your time.
It starts generally because the person that the organization wants has a skill. It might be that the person has accounting skills, it might be fund raising skills, or in our case computer skills.

Donating your time is thankless
When a person donates their time it is not supposed to be about the “Look at me, am I great or what”.
This information is what happened to us in Palm Springs, California and the surrounding area after being involved with a lot of non-profits and organizations. Some are business organizations, some are animal organizations, and others are disabled persons organizations. Trust Logic and Catnip on this one, the list of these that we have volunteer our skills to is a larger then life list.

Lack of caring by the boards
We have been so involved that today though a few of these organizations are involved with us still we do not offer and will generally just not reply or hangup sighting the past as a great lesson on dealing with ultra ego power trips. We want to call these MEGA-EGOS.

We are not mad. We are amazed.
Before Logic writes further we did not wake up this morning and go after charities and those other Malisha groups but rather to cast a word or two of caution into the air for others that want to be helpful. Like anything in life do your homework. Most of what we found we will write here today and then we can forward this to anyone that comes along in the future asking for our help in the area of computer programming skills.

We have truly met them all, from the ultra power trip of our very own former Chief of Police to even more self serving people with gigantic titles and no skills to get anything done, other then to bark orders and even do this wrong. This Palm Springs Valley has more charities per capital then any-other city in the United States. Some 900 plus and plus because new groups come online each day.

Animals Gone Wild
Here is a story about how we keep adding more and more useless groups each day.
Lets say you have a board of directors and there is a volunteer that does not end up getting along with some other board member. This board member goes out and starts their own organization essentially doing the exact same thing diluting the available to the area resources. They all have and share a common thought that they can do all things better then the other board members. They further more like with the police chief forgot what we were to be all about in the case of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter it is all about the animals and providing them a great home. Not one time though god knows Logic brought it up in meetings? Are we here to help the animals or what? What is this organization all about? A true loss of focus was clearly what Logic saw there and with many other groups as well to be fair about this whole desert charities stuff.

A Police Chief without a clue
Hell we even have our own Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter that had a leader now running for State of California Assembly candidate, Gary Jeandron this a man, most we the people would say were happy he left the Police Department (retired thank you) as he truly was not a good leader in the PSASFriends.com animal project for which Logic used to sit on the board of and watch politics work harder with this man to accomplish nothing. It is truly sad that these are what people want working for them in our government, but this is what voting is for right. There was rarely a meeting without some level of arguments within this little group.

Looks can be misleading
He appears to be on the surface a good man, however get close and get spit out like a cannon ball then you will know Gary Jeandron like we do.
Please feel free to visit his personal web site and see all that this man has accomplished? It is amazing Gary Jeandron State Assembly
However enough about meaningless local politics or those that wish they could be in them, personally we do not loose any sleep over this matter, that this alleged leader used us for this and one other project and then spit us out like “Who Cares”.

We are sorry Gary Jeandron
You know we have to share that we are not mad with Gary. This whole event took place more then a year ago.
Not mad one single bit.
We used Gary (he used us) as that relationship was our saddest example of what happened to us in charity/nonprofit work in Palm Springs.
We understand how these people get to a point of dealing with others in their carriers and can be burned out. We know we fell this way sometimes ourselves. We also want you to know that Logic and Catnip are not perfect at all.
We just, like with our local web site about weather, live cams, and informative information just wanted to contribute to and be a part of the little city of Palm Springs that we are so happy to be living in. See the Palm Springs Weather here Palm Springs Weather with no advertising for tourism and annual operating budget of about 70.000.00 dollars because Palm Springs is a tourism city.

We built PsView.com to also fit in and the web site now service millions of unique visitors per year and not to be self serving but this has made Logic and Catnip a lot of friends locally as well as around the world. It even has and annual PsViewer’s Unite Party Event held right here in Palm Springs, California.

One charity out of all is great
Logic does not sit on the board of Desert Paws and we are sure there are other great charities and nonprofits in the Coachella Valley, but we do love Desert Paws and Logic and Catnip while not much, donate money to them when we have it and these two that run the organization are true leaders and great with volunteers and have been great with us for over 7 year.
It is Desert Paws a part Barry Manilow project Lori and Peter they are absolutely great to have as friends and as the founders of Desert Paws. See their wonderful organization here Palm Springs Animals and we truly believe that other Coachella Valley non-profits should take lessons from these two wonderful people. Lori and Peter are what giving and what Palm Springs is all about.

What happens when people get tired
You can read how Logic and Catnip feel about being treated so badly, then back a year ago not now these very people (some of them anyways) talked about how bad we did.
What does this cause?
It means like in our case, and the case of so many others that have come before Logic and Catnip and will come after Logic and Catnip. It is that you loose the good volunteers and they are not willing to help others when they need the help. Hey even our own Palm Springs Economic Development Corporation could care less about our web site efforts, however we did not sit on their board mainly because the non-profit group accomplishes nothing as well.

Is giving to be treated bad a local thing?
It might just be a Palm Springs thing. Perhaps it is that Logic, Catnip, and the Viper Logic team do not come across as good enough people or we are mean in some way.

Closing the door on this subject
This is how you are left feeling when you reach out when asked to help these groups only to have them hinder your local efforts to do business, and stay in good graces with your fellow neighbors. For us we do most of our business from outside of the Coachela Valley and this has little to no effect on ouir business and we are thankful to be here in Palm Springs.
