The city has just fewer than 6000 residents living in 6.3 square miles of area and of course because of the Big Bear Lake 0.2 square miles of water area.
The city was incorporated in November 1980.

Some Interesting facts about Big Bear Lake, California.
Big Bear Lake though it looks very natural it is not it is a reservoir in San Bernardino Mountains held together by a dam holding back a nearly 7 mile length of water mostly 1 mile wide with a width peek of 2.5 miles and this lake is at its deepest point 72 feet deep. You would never know that this is not a natural lake it really fits right into the valley in fact there is an airport right off of the lake actually the runway extends right to the water edge here Big Bear, California City Airport

this is a nature lovers place so lets get started with the Big Bear Zoo, Moonridge Animal Park and the Living Forest Wildlife Center here Big Bear Zoo where they help and protect the animals that cannot help themselves anymore including the only type of bears left in the entire state of California the Black Bear. Next this is a snow skier and snow boarding paradise with ski runs here Big Bear Lake through Snow Summit offer things to do at there ski resort for spring, summer and fall but what else you might not know is there are summer activities like riding the ski lifts to the top of a mountain and taking your mountain bike with you to enjoy a wild fast ride down the hills through the trees WOW a Big Bear Lake adventure. Bring your golf clubs because when there is no snow on the Big Bear Mountains then you can golf at a nine hole course where your shots will go farther because you are in an upper altitude of between 6,750 feet to 9,000 feet however the course is at 7,000 feet here Big Bear Lake Golf Course.

Next let’s go boating out on the Big Bear Lake here are the rules Big Bear Lake Rules and Regulations and you can go on the lake in a motor boat, go water skiing, wakeboarding, tube tows behind a boat on an inter tube, personal water craft (PWC’s) kayak even fishing all work well here.
