The Viper Logic team worked on domain name clusters and created a concept that we wanted to share. So we built this Blog to share our growth in the area of Domain Name Clusters. We want to also share what we determined a cluster should be defined as.
Domain Name Cluster Defined:
A domain name cluster is first a focused accumulation of keywords within each domain name. In our case our largest cluster is our “weather” domain names for only California.
California has the largest amount of cities of any US state.
There are 478 cities that have a population greater the 10,000 each so we bought them all with the keyword “weather” in them.
We even added a lot of small towns and beach names as the coastline of California has over 135 beaches, islands, bays, coves, marinas, points, and harbors that span the 1100 mile west coast of this great state.
You can apply this cluster concept to any domain name grouping that fits your project or product.

Think about buying other relevant Domain Names:
We then bought each of the 58 counties with the keyword “weather” in them. Example: Los Angeles County Weather.
In our case we also bought the very important keyword “California Weather Authority” to use as our main web site directory. This will be the main landing page where a visitors then can select either one of the 58 counties or select one of the 478 cities of California and be taken directly to one. Upon arrival in our case the visitor will see a very city by city personalized and focused web site.
In our example of a domain name cluster (weather) you will see 4 keys needed to qualify as a cluster.
Each word needs to be a noun.
We only buy .com URL endings and suggest you do as well.
A keyword in each name must be the same as in our case the keyword “weather”.
And finally the combination of keywords together should be focused on a subject matter, region, location, product etc.
