Email Marketing 80/20 Rule

image

Meet WineTastingAuthority.com
We have selected to use our client WineTastingAuthority.com for this example of applying the 80/20 rule being 80% content and 20% promotion.

Wine Tasting Authority is known with their customers as the source for limited addition and extremely hard to obtain wines from the California wine producing region and by some customers accounts this store owner is known as the authority and the go to guy for California wines with his rich wine industry knowledge, connections and history.

image
Know your customers
Like our wine authority knows which customers like red or white, cabernets, merlots, zinfandels, pinot noirs or chardonnays and he knows how much a customer is willing to spend he knows to keep his customers separated into groups in his email marketing service account contact section by what they enjoy and buy regularly so when he sends out offers he knows how to get the correct message to the correct group resulting in a higher sales rate.

This type of marketing is called targeted marketing and he does this through a simple data base software he has set up through his point of sale service right at the cash register and tied to his online shopping cart system that places based on the customers purchase type and price threshold so when he uploads his newest contacts into his Viper Mailer contact section in his account they are placed into the group that best fits the customers potential future purchase.

Know why customers buy from you
Your customers did not just buy or continue to buy from you because you are you, perhaps they read in you that you have a passion in what you do they see this, they hear this so they want to be a part of this. This is called building trust, gaining respect and building on loyalty.

Notice that the Wine Tasting Authority is an authority on California wines and he is trusted by his customers to provide them not just the ability to acquire some hard to get wines but because he uses his email marketing campaign to educate his customers and this is known as empowering the customer with the knowledge to make good conversation with their own friends and family.

The Wine Tasting Authority has been educating his customers and they are learning how to make their own decisions on what to buy and what is best for their wine tastes. This is why the customers come back and even welcome the Wine Tasting Authorities informative email messages so they can grow their own personal knowledge on California wines.

This is called the 80/20 rule of marketing and this really works and it is easy to apply to any product or service and the end result, it generates the greatest (ROI) Return on Investment results.
Simply put you send out a single page email message with 80% information like in the Wine Tasting Authority case might discuss a vintage year, write about the vineyard, perhaps the expert grower and even some tasters explaining that this years grape growth might not repeat for several years like we have just bottled.

This informative information is usually targeted on the subject matter, see you are providing knowledge to the customer so that they may consider buying into the story and this is where the 20% of your message is about promotion and “Call to Action” as the provider of the solution to the customers challenge like in this case it is to offer the customer the opportunity to buy this rare grape yielding year for their own future tasting.

Talking the talk
What the 80% part of our 80/20 message does is create a platform where you are educating the customer and sending the message that you are the authority on it and this 80% truly drives the sale which your 20% promotion is there in the message to take care of.

Provide a reason to buy and now
When you write your message applying the 80/20 rule you have created a reason for the customer to buy from you by explaining in the Wine Tasting Authority case that this years grapes might not repeat in this sweeter taste for years to come making several things happen at one time.

You have educated the customer on one of their favorite types of California wine and you have expressed urgency to place an order because these are going to sell out and that through your 20% part of the rule you have shared how many bottles of this wine you have or have reserved just for your loyal customers creating the Call to Action.

Visiting the islands of California
When people think of California they might think of the amusement parks, the beaches along the coastline, television shows they watch that are filmed on location in California, movie stars but it is doubtful that they think about the islands of California.

Locals known as Californian’s might think about the one island that is the only island that has people living on it the Santa Catalina Island but what few know is how many islands California has from the very south end of Southern California to the upper northern end of Northern California.

What and even very few amount of people are aware of is that California has 12 islands that are located in the Pacific Ocean though the state actually has even more islands within the bays, harbors and marinas along the coast we are focused on those that are out in the Pacific Ocean away from the protection of bays, harbors and marinas.

image

Woo the customer without giving away the farm
The first step is applying email marketing reducing direct mailing while still offering specials and new arrivals so you can pass on the savings to the customer and afford you to plan a regular scheduled email campaign on a more then direct mailing bases.

Email Marketing starts with collecting email addresses
Collecting contacts legally (Opt-In) and here is how to collect email addresses and you can start sending messages with as well as a 100 or more putting you on your way while you develop procedures for you and your staff to grow your contact list legally.
Email List Building Getting Started
Email Contact Collecting in Two Days
Email Contact Collecting in a Few Weeks

Email Marketing 101
What is email marketing and what can it do for you and your company or organization starting today in fact we even have a free trial to try around the office or with friends or the board of directors to see all that running an email marketing campaign can do at our first email marketing article.

How to encourage your customers to action
The whole process starts with those 35 to 50 charictors of space we have for the subject line that appears in the customers email inbox. Please take the time to learn a short amount of great knowledge on the Subject Line is your Front Line.

Color to catch the eyes of your customer
If you are a company then you more then likely have a branded color for your company, business card, packaging or logo that is a familiar color that will catch the customers eye and if you use this color they know about in the first three inches of header area of your message then the customer will see this and recognize it adding to your open ability of your email message that just arrived in their email inbox.

Logo to catch the customer’s familiarity with your brand
Using your logo in the header will not hurt your recipients trust and put a link built into the logo to your web site to get them over to your site but if you take them directly to your home page and not to your landing page where your great offer is then be sure to have an image and the special offer related to your message in their email inbox place the offer right on the front page nearest the upper left hand side of the page below the page header would be great.

Call to action about your offer
Here is where you are going to exceed the customer experience by offering the customer a returning loyalty opportunity a special event on how to class or meet others that share an interest in these same products that is not giving away the farm but sounds really like a great offer to them and to take it one step further through in some free food and drinks and to close the opportunity also share that you will have the latest release being shown only to the VIP customers and also require an RSVP to show you they saw your opportunity and that they acknowledge they are coming.

What did you accomplish
You just did this whole event (perhaps on a 2 time a year bases) with some of your and your staffs time and a little bit of cost for the email message, food and drinks and this did not cost you the farm but gained you loyalty, trust and ultimately sells now let’s write the next story about your company or oraganizations email marketing communications efforts by trying the Viper Mailer email marketing service today.
