Ways to Sell a Domain Name Part 2

image

The second of three ways to sell a domain name
If you missed Part One or would like to review the easiest way to sell a domain name here it is Ways to Sell a Domain Name Part 1. We consider Part 1 as being closer to flipping a name rather then having any passion for domain names and that is why generally at least as far as the mass amount of domain names sells go you settle for less money but you have also applied less efforts beyond writing a check anyways.

Part 2 is also the second easiest way to sell a domain name
We have certainly learned a lot over the years about domain names in this Part 2 we are going to share how to create the vision of the domain name perhaps the same vision you had when you thought up the name or when you grabbed it from a dropped domain name service.

What we will share in this article is creating and adding a logo, creating a simple site and adding content for the name that explains what the name is meant to represent on the Internet and this is going to be a little more work but still relatively simple yet very effective towards getting you more money for your names. Lets get started with a logo representing the brand of your domain name.

Creating a logo for a domain name
Ok to start we will need a domain name to use and since we have so many names we have randomly selected “OrangeCountySurfing.com” a three word domain name that is descriptive. It is a county in California named Orange County and it describes Surfing in that county so we have a lot of choices for the out come of this logo like a surfboard and orange an outline of the county so how about an orange avatar with arms and legs riding a surfboard on a wave ok we can go with this concept.

Realize that yours will need to be as creative so you see this was as easy as the drop of a hat but you should not spend more then about 100.00 dollars on your logo unless of course you happen to be a graphic designer then only your time is what it cost what ever your hourly personal value is we will need to be sure we get this back in the end when you sell this packaged concept.

Creating a site
Now a days you have choices as to what format your site is going to be and in fact when Logic writes we no longer refer to a web site unless it is one because there are other forms of sites today and some are free. You can choose to build a blog, forum, social network or a photo share site as well as the original web site.

So select the format you are going to build your name up on and research finding the software that is very available using your favorite search engine and typing in the keywords like “forum software” or “blog software” or just pay a web master to build you a 3 page web site of course after you have written the content that we are going to discuss next but be sure your site has three tabs one for the Home Page, one for the About Us or About Orange County Surfing Page and finally a Contact Us Page.

Be sure to remember that you are going to need to hire a site hosting company that will provide you with web site statistics so you can monitor and record your site traffic, then be sure the host provider allows you to also set up 3 to 5 email addresses for the domain name in our case Sales@, Info@, etc. because this displays strength compared to having a free email address no one takes a gmail or msn account serious we usually delete them as consumers and you are no longer a consumer you are a business person.

Creating your site theme and content
Page 1
Now is where you need to put on your sales person hat and begin to write what the site could become remember this is going to be a three page web site in the case of Orange County Surfing so we are going to write about 1200 to 2000 words of site content describing surfing in Orange County and describing each Orange County Beach even adding photos of these beaches with surfing shots for just this Home Page 1. Add an advertise here 125x125 pixel box or two on the main page that is graphic and says Advertise Here or something that conveys like that with a click link that will send a form that opens to your

Page 2
We are going to have an About Orange County Surfing Page this is where you are gong to write about your vision for the site like having live surf reports, weather, surfing discussion maybe even a photo sharing etc. You can see that the sky is the limit when it comes to sharing your ideas because you are pushing the reader to what to buy this site and make these written thoughts of your into reality so write and easy to envision fun project growth plan not a business plan but remember to show how you see adding ways to monetize the site like display advertising even membership to your surf reports or surfers hook up network whatever you can imagine.

Page 3
This is your Contact Us Page so be sure your using your new email address for this page and one important note create a form with the usual name phone email address and a box that allows the person to write what they are inquiring about as well make all fields be fill in mandatory to reduce spamming your email inbox.

How to market your site
When you or the webmaster build your site be sure the important keywords are in the sites software code for Title, Keywords and Description and these would be the words that best describe your site and its purpose so that a potential buyer can locate your site with easy.

In our case Orange County Surfing the keywords are not only in the domain name OrangeCountySurfing.com but the site code would look like this Title: Orange County Surfing, Keywords, orange county, orange county surfing, orange county beaches, Description Surfing Conditions for Orange County Beaches featuring surfing condition forecasts at Orange County Beaches.

Now we need to get your site some energy and you need to promote your site anywhere and everywhere you can like forums, local newspapers and anything you can think up plus you might consider buying some high profile blog posts or advertising spaces on other sites that are about your subject matter so long as those sites are not competing directly with yours. Stay clear of the easy to do poor returns experienced on those search engine (PPC) Pay Per Click sites in our opinion especially when your site is not making any money.

There is under our Category Domain Name Investing a lot of how to promote your site tips so go there to look around read and learn because I do not want to write all of this again here.

Now as well you can return like in Part 1 to the domain name auction houses for offering your now envisioned create visual site because it is easier to see what you think the domain name can be and you can ask for more money now because the domain name is receiving traffic where as in Part 1 the domain name was just a name with no traffic values.

Ways to Sell a Domain Name Part 1

image

3 Ways to sell a domain name
Over the next week we will breakdown the three best ways to sell domain names but we need to warn you a little, these methods are not for selling junk domain names but rather it is for selling names that best match our how to buy domain names site guidelines How to Buy Domain Names Guide which is a simple 11 steps to buy domain names with advice like never buy or rarely never buy any extension other then a (TLD) Top Level Domain.

Selling a Domain Name Part One A
Our first way is also our easiest way to unload a domain name and perhaps though not bringing you the highest amount of (ROI) Return on Investment you can still try to sell a domain name, none the less this way and easier then the coming two selling ways.

There are companies that act as agents making sure your name goes to the buyer and the buyer pays you like an escrow a form of protection, protecting both he buyer and the seller. They vary from auction house to auction house but you can get a complete list of them by doing a keyword search on your favorite search engine using these keywords “domain name auction” there are thousands of these services to place your names and pay a small fee for the listing service and escrow service.

There are two other ways in Part One that you can try to offer your domain names out on the market for sell but these are mostly a waste of time in our opinion because the audience for these two ways is to end user and we truly would like you to get the most for your names usually from a business.

Selling a Domain Name Part One B
You can go to e-bay and list it under domain names and again will be paying a small fee and hey who knows you might get a buyer with a price that matches your minimum offer. Helpful domain name values at the end of this article.

Selling a Domain Name Part One C
In today’s final way to sell your domain names the fastest, as we as we said earlier we do not like this way but it works sometimes, is to join webmaster forums and to find a list of about a couple a hundred of them you can again return to your favorite search engine and do a keyword search for “webmaster forums” also under “domain name forums” to find these forums.

Joining these forums is free, it is easy to sign up and both types of forums will have a domain name section for you to list your names. A word of caution is to be sure you select an escrow company on your own to handle the transfer and money collection because the fraud level on webmaster forums is very high.

How much money should you ask for your domain names
Values of a domain name is not a science it is also not an emotion so look at what you paid for your name usually under 10.00 dollars, so be realistic because you might have paid for it 5 years ago and you are going to want that amount around 50.00 dollars, next after listing fees from an auction house they handle escrow, escrow fees if on your own and some level of return on your money and time are also nice to get in the deal.

Determining a domain names value
The value of a domain name is going to have a lot to do with what your domain name is anywhere from a two letter or number .com to a single word domain will get you hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars but more then likely your name is a two words or two keyword domain name that if it is desired then can get you thousands to hundreds of thousands so you can see your name needs to be researched and the best place to start is at our Domain Name Assistance site above.

Looking into reality about selling a name you can see if for example that Logic the Global domain name guy has a portfolio of thousands of names so you can look at some of what we have there they run from 10.00 dollars to thousands of dollars Viper Names Portfolio.

In Closing
We hope this option gets you thinking about your domain name values and we will be back with Ways to Sell a Domain Name Part 2 in a few days followed a few days later with Part 3, so check back in with us because these next two ways have ways to apply a little more effort and sell your names for more money then the easy way. Remember that with anything in life time is money so if you put a lot of transferable time into a name then that time invested becomes money for you as well.

Focused Domain Name Clusters

image

Building on a micro cluster
To catch you up to speed if you are not aware of what in our opinion a Domain Name Cluster is we have it defined here Domain Name Clusters.

A Micro Cluster Owner
Hello my name is Logic the Global Domain Name guy for Viper Names and as a company we have a dream that with hard work and friends will come true because we have a passion to become the best of the best in all we do. We live in the city of Palm Springs, California where we operate our business Viper Logic a software engineering and development company.

At Viper Names we own a lot of domain names and have a site where they are available for public view at our Domain Name Portfolio and we are going to discuss what we are wanting to do with a set cluster of names pertaining to California, weather and each Coachella Valley city.

This cluster begins life in the Coachella Valley located in Riverside County, California and the city of Palm Springs is one of nine cities and a hand full of unincorporated towns located here so we will first list the domain names that we have for our cities and twons and show one working weather model that is active in Palm Springs and explain the rest of the cluster and how we want to build it out covering the entire Coachella Valley.

Domain Name Micro Cluster list
First we select the main site a name with the regional location in it to be the micro cluster domain name featuring the directory of cities with an active map selector. We have two to choose from but either would work.
CaliforniaDesertWeather.com or PalmSpringsValleyWeather.com

Cluster of cities to be built as weather sites for each city in the above region.
DesertHotSpringsWeather.com, PalmDesertWeather.com, WeatherPalmSprings.com, CathedralCityWeather.com, RanchoMirageWeather.com, IndioWeather.com
WeatherMecca.com, WeatherCoachella.com, ThermalWeather.com, WeatherThousandPalms.com, IndianWellsWeather.com, LaQuintaWeather.com,
CabazonWeather.com and SaltonSeaWeather.com

We added two additional weather location domain names that are outside of the Coachella Valley being the CabazonWeather.com located as the first city outside of the valley to the north and SaltonSeaWeather.com located just outside of the valley to south and these two are to cover the ends of this cluster because their presence and weather conditions are similar to those of the Coachella Valley.

Domain Name Cluster working model
We have had a domain name cluster running for a few years now and you can visit it here but be reminded there is a major update awaiting us to carve out time to implement into these fully functional weather sites at California Beach Weather.

Our first weather web site for our micro cluster
In 1999 we released the first weather web site for Viper Logic in Palm Springs, California named with live web cams and today the site is the most popular and accurate weather web site in the Coachella Valley with multiple weather stations placed at each end of this long narrow city. We also now feature 9 live web cams and city information for visitors and local residents to enjoy and you can see this working model here Palm Springs Weather as well it is branded locally as PsView.com.

What the final completed micro cluster will do for us
We have a master plan for each city and important location that included weather, web cams, city focused information, and a travelers itinerary system for each city in California all 478 of them and the final project will then be called a product named the California Weather Authority. A copy of the California Weather Authority master plan is available by contacting us from this blog.

To get to the master plan completion level Viper Logic must build out cities region by region and that takes us back to this step on our journey to build out the entire Coachella Valley a desert visitor hot bed and we are planning to locate at least one weather station in each of the 14 locations with a web cam at each city as well.

This 14 unique cities and 1 main site directory will extend our weather and information to new heights of site traffic and popularity through the cluster that started with the one PsView.com site in 1999. It was this web site and nearly 10 years of operating it that shared with us at Viper Logic what can be possible state wide for California and with this information we applied our Advanced Technology Engineering skills towards the future of this project.

In Closing
Domain Name Clusters are very focused projects that allow for the most accurate detailed in the case of this micro cluster the focus is on weather and visitor information by city. Each name becomes a developed and focused location unique to its city and culture instead of weather web sites that are all things to all people. please stay in touch with Viper Logic and their corporate mascot fromtime to time so you can see all that becomes of our large scale popularity and revenue stream builder.
